excerpted from an email i wrote a couple of weeks go…

here, we
give each other the benefit of the doubt, right?  here, we expect
people to ask for what they need.  to support each other any way we
can.  even if it is just an email that says: your life matters to me.
here, we listen to each other.  here, we dont expect folks to come as
partial selves, but whole, we dont expect mothers to leave their
children behind, or their disabilities, or their sexualities, even if
the whole group doesnt share in that identity.

thankfully i dont have to understand it in order to believe that
speaking as if my life and my work is relevant to yours is important
to my survival.  and to yours.
