yeah, when i read that list i can see some patterns emerging.  like i like bright colors.  and strong contrasts.  and africa.

you as i read this list.  and look for patterns. it scares me because.  growing up i was told to associate this with primitivism.  which is obviously a lower and more naive form of art or expression.

god, its amazing the bullshit we are forced to internalize in order to deal iwth the world that we are brought into.

like i am intimidated by people who i feel, their expression, is more mature.  or subtle.  you know neutral colors.  i will start creating something i love and then completely sabotage it because i think – oh it needs to be more…u know…like mature serious artists.

but then i remember something i learned in dance class a long time ago.  that i know to be true.  even though i rearely hear or see it reflected back to me in this world.

it is this:

classically trained dancers.  and even modern dancers.  often suck at jazz and west african dance.  no matter how much training.  it doesnt translate.  they will often look down on african based styles of dance as you know not really dance.  and you can watch them do amazing stuff in their field.  but you ever watched a classically trained dancer the first time she encounters jazz?

hilarity ensues.

because those not really dance styles are amazingly complicated and subtle.

like the color red.  the color red is amazingly subtle.  i can list 15 shades of red off the top of my head.  so when i said…the color red…what i meant was…the colors red.  all of them.  i love how many different versions of red there are.

there isas much subtlety in yellow as there is in grey.
